CALL TO ORDER:  

A meeting of the Fremont Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners was called to order by Chairperson Darwin Bugg at 8:00 p.m. on September 2, 2008 at the USDA Building, Sidney, Iowa.

ADOPT AGENDA:  

The agenda for the September 2, 2008 meeting was approved with the addition of watershed tree removal.

 

APPROVAL OF AUGUST 12, 2008 MINUTES:

46-08     A motion by Sanders, seconded by Mitchell was made to approve the minutes of the August 12, 2008 meeting of the Fremont Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners as written. Motion showed all in favor.

 

APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT:

47-08     It was moved by Mitchell and seconded by Wing to approve the Treasurer’s report of the Fremont Soil and Water Conservation District. Motion carried unanimously.

 

BUSINESS:

Ř       Yearbook Advertising – After Prom Donations

48-08     Sanders made a motion to purchase the 1 block ad size advertisement in the yearbook of any Fremont County school that solicits the office and to donate $25.00 to any Fremont County school that solicits for donations to their After-Prom activities. The motion was seconded by Mitchell and carried with all in favor.

 

Ř       Waubonsie Creek Watershed Maintenance Payment

49-08     Mitchell made a motion, seconded by Wing to approve payment to Curt Cashatt in the amount of $4,575.00 ($2,973.75 paid by Mills County and $1,601.25 paid by Fremont County) for maintenance on sites 36-1, 39-1, 39, 11-1, 31-1, 3-8, 3-7, 23-3, 3-3, 3-7, and 3-8 of Waubonsie Creek Watershed. The motion carried unanimously.

 

Ř       Watershed Tree Removal Status

                Bids will be let for tree and shrub removal on Hamburg Watershed, Hound Dog Watershed, Ledgewood Watershed and Simpson Watershed. All trees and shrubs should be cut at ground level and the entire stump area treated with Tordon or comparable. All material will be chipped and blown downstream from structure or hauled off site. The area to be cut on the back slope will consist of everything perpendicular to the end of the main outlet tube to the top of the bank. The front slope and the emergency outlet should be included in the bid. Work must be completed by March 1, 2009. Payment will be made upon the completion of each watershed.

                Visitor Center Update – Sixty volunteers attended the Visitor Center Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. The Center is seeing approximately 100 visitors per day.
