Text Box: Summary of Two Rivers Project and Two Rivers Project II: The Fremont County Soil & Water Conservation District will hire a full-time wetland specialist to coordinate the Two Rivers Project. The specialist will administer and promote the numerous wetland programs available to landowners. They will partner with the other organizations and agencies to provide technical and financial assistance in the restoration and creation of wetland habitat. The specialist will facilitate numerous outreach efforts including the publication of a quarterly newsletter, brochure, and several informational meetings. The scope of work is divided into seven work elements. Text Box: Project Performance Report for 1/1/06 to 3/31/06 Text Box: Signs of Spring are all around us here in Fremont County, and with it has come some much needed moisture. The county experienced three very dry winter months, but this dry weather has allowed landowners and contractors to perform work that could not have otherwise been completed. The landowners restoring wetlands have spent the winter months completing shallow water excavations and installing water control structures. They are now awaiting the April 15 seeding date to sow their native grass and forbs seeds. Easements: John Wanamaker: This easement was recently purchased by Andrew Rasmussen. A transfer agreement was completed for Rasmussen to continue Text Box: with all of the remaining contract items. Twenty acres of shallow water excavation has been completed, nearly 400 pounds of native grass/forbs seed has been ordered, and trees are awaiting planting. This wetland will be a very valuable addition to the existing 700 acre wetland complex just south of Riverton, Iowa. Department of Natural Resources: Forney met with Carl Preibe, Iowa DNR, on the 10th of February. Preibe requested that Easement Compatible Use Agreements be written up for the easements that the IDNR manages. Forney is currently working to complete this request.
